  • Climate action highlights: What milestones did we achieve in 2024? 🌲100% of our purchased paper materials were certified under a credible third-party forest certification scheme. 📉 We achieved a 55% reduction in our Scope 1 & 2 emission intensity compared to 2015 levels. 🆕 We launched our Carbon Action plastic labels portfolio to help the packaging value chain reduce its carbon footprint. 📊 In a first for the labeling industry, we integrated product footprints – generated by our Label Life service – directly into customer quotes. ♻️ The UPM RafCycle™ recycling service received a certificate of validity from DEKRA for its CO2 impact assessments, providing our customers increased assurance with their recycling efforts. • How prepared are brands for the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation? ♻️📦 In collaboration with PENTAWARDS, we revealed insights from a survey of top packaging designers, highlighting challenges in sustainable packaging design and strategies to overcome them. 📊 The survey results show that 47% of the designer respondents feel confident with handling briefs that include sustainability requirements – but 43% would prefer more information to feel comfortable. 💰Many packaging designers described that cost remains a major barrier to sustainable packaging. 🤝 Based on the survey, designers also need more information and better collaboration across the value chain. As a material solutions company, our role is to support designers with tools and resources and to collaborate across the value chain to identify and deliver tailored material solutions that meet both incoming regulatory requirements and design needs. • Do you know what EPR schemes are? Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) systems incentivize more circular packaging by introducing fees for companies based on the environmental impact of their products and packaging. Higher fees are often assessed for packaging that is more challenging or costly to recycle. Packaging designer James Pryor of Touch Design describes: "When you're designing for recyclability, you're also most likely making your EPR fees smaller". Read our interview with James to learn more about circular packaging design. 👉 https://go.upm.com/410K4DX #UPMRaflatac #PackagingDesign
