Big change

An open challenge for Studentsacademicsstartups and other businesses to create a tire innovation to change the future.

In the fast race against climate change, tires can make all the difference.

FAST RACE, BIG CHANGE is an open innovation challenge for students, startups, academics and businesses. Bring us an innovation that makes tires more sustainable in some way. We are looking for ideas and solutions from all around the world and across all industries that can be put into production in our future premium tires offered to drivers around the globe.

We invite the finalists to visit our test facility in Lapland, Finland and introduce their idea in front of a panel of judges from the top of the industry - in a way that you have never pitched before: during one lap on a tire test track. The winner of the challenge will recieve a monetary prize and a seat around the table where the next world's most sustainable tire is created.

time for the finals!

We received entries from 18 different countries for the next big solution for more sustianable tires. Our team of tire experts chose four amazing finalists that take part in the nail-bitingly exciting finals event at the end of January at our tire test center White Hell in Lapland, Finland. As we are racing against the clock for a more sustainable future, time is also limited for their pitch: they have to pitch their innovation to the panel of judges from a car speeding on lap on a frozen tire test track.

Meet the jury

The finalists of the FAST RACE, BIG CHANGE challenge will get the opportunity to pitch for industry influencers, innovators and Nokian Tyres experts.

innovate like Nokian tyres - our sustainability story

The history of Nokian Tyres dates back to over 120 years, and during our existance we have made some of the biggest innovations of the industry - starting in 1934, when we invented the world’s first winter tire to safeguard people in the rugged conditions of the demanding Scandinavian winters we hail from. From that day on,  we have been the pioneer of making the world safer. For us, safety means finding new solutions for better road safety and environmental sustainability with every new product.
